Any help is much appreciate. No nasty comments please!?

Imagine yourself in the role of supervisor of a shoe

store. You have just arrived back from vacation and you face:

1. Two applications for jobs (no positions open

right now).

2. A note to call Mary (salesclerk) about vacation

schedule.

3. A notice that the mall will be changing hours for

the upcoming holiday and requesting notice of

store plans.

4. A customer complaint regarding product quality.

5. Four shipping receipts indicating that about 130

pairs of shoes have been delivered and need to

be stocked.

6. Bids from three companies responding to

requests for bids on a cash register system (each

store chooses its own).

7. A notice from the fire department of an

impending inspection.

8. A note that the rest room is out of order.

9. Notice from the company headquarters that a

holiday sale will begin soon.

10. Five advertisements and two catalogs from

various vendors.

You should decide to “act on” or “delegate” each of

the 10 items. Of the 10 items which have to be acted on or delegate

Any help is much appreciate. No nasty comments please!?
How soon is the holiday?

How many people do you have available to delegate the work to?

If only one delegate, and the holiday is a few weeks away, here is my suggestion, in order of importance.

8 - Fix the restroom. Don't leave it broken, that's gross. Get an employee to call a plumber. DELEGATE.

5 - Get all of your employees to help with this one. Spread the work between all of them. DELEGATE

7 - The fire dept is a legal entity and should be given high priority. You should call and get specific dates and times so you can plan and prepare for it. ACT

2 - If you don't get the vacation schedule situated, you will have unhappy employees, so make sure you take care of them. ACT

4 - Customer issues should be handled seriously because they are the reason you are in business. If you dont have anyone who can handle this for you, then call the customer yourself to handle the situation ACT/DELEGATE

3 - Who sent the notice for the holiday plans? If your corporate office requested it or the mall requested it, get back to them as soon as you can. They need to plan around you as well. ACT.

6 - What is your due date to choose? You must choose, this is your responsibility. However, do get employee feedback. ACT

1 - These are not a priority and can wait. Call the applicants yourself to let them know you are not hiring at this time. ACT

9 - If you have time before the holiday, then you have time to get the store up to speed for the holiday. Work with your employees to do this. ACT/DELEGATE.

10 - You should review these at your pace, when you have a free moment. ACT

This is just my opinion based on the info you provided.

Hope it helps.
Reply:Number one doesn't need anything. Just file them away.

Number two is your lowest priority. If you get everything else done, then call her. If it's that important to her, she'll call you first.

Number three seems easy, I used to manage a restaurant in a mall you just tell them you'll be open the same hours as the mall. That should take one minute.

Number four may take a little time, but you should do it yourself. It's not your top priority but you need to do it today.

Number five, delegate it. Not your job.

Number six, just pick the best bid yourself. Do it today if you have time, but tomorrows OK too when you've recovered from being on vacation.

Number seven, is it a regularly scheduled inspection or a re-inspection based on previous violations? Do you have a checklist you can delegate? This is very delegateable, but if it is a re-inspection you may want to take a more hands-on role in your preparation. If you don't have a checklist, do you have a previous inspection to use as a checklist? Obvious things are fire extinguishers, condition of electrical, emergency lighting, nothing blocking exit doors etc. Just make sure you're ready when they come.

Number eight, delegate it right away. You've got to keep your restrooms clean and working.

Number nine, how soon? Have somebody get all the details and give you a summary. Then decide what needs to be done.

Number ten, unless you need something - so what? This requires no action whatsoever.

You should be able to tackle everything on this list you need to do today in under an hour.

Reply:Act on, Start with the hardest one first...then move your way down...
Reply:That's a whole lot of writing not to include a question...
Reply:Hand your notice in by the sound of it they don't care how you feel otherwise they would have told you that there has been an advert for your job.
Reply:1. Delegate an employee to call and inform the people and that you will maintain their apps on file.

2. You handle this one as it may affect the store.

3. You handle this one as the manager you know the stores plans.

4. You or an employee can handle this one as you just need to refer the customer to the manufacturer, or if the store has a policy for returns implement it.

5. Let your employees do the stocking, unless you have a real small shop and want to help. Its not beneath managers from doing a job that subordinates do.

6. You must handle this one as a manager. This is a big item and must be examined thoroughly by you to choose the right bid.

7. No action required here but have your employees clean the place before the inspection.

8. Have the mall fix the bathroom unless its in the lease you have to. If it is you should arrange a plumber, not an employee.

You act on this one and prepare according to headquarters guidelines.

10. read them at your leisure.
Reply:5 and 8 are really the only things which can be delegated, unless the supervisor has an asst... If they have an asst. 7 %26amp; 4 can be delegated as well.

The rest must be handled by the supervisor.

though i'm not really sure about them, its what i would do.
Reply:Split it up - that's why you're the supervisor.
Reply:5, 8 %26amp; 10 should be delegated to your assistant mgr to handle

You would then act on (4) the customer complaint right away and

the rest handle in this order....2, 3, 1 (as the extended hours may allow for 2 new people) 7, 9, %26amp; 6

that should do it
Reply:i am never working for you
Reply:They all need to be acted upon in some form. That is what Managers do. That's why you make more than the high school or college kids who work there part time.
Reply:Welcome back from vacation - Looks like you have your work cut out for you.

You can delegate some of it, like fixing the bathroom and stocking the shoes, but most of the other stuff you will have to handle. Sorry...
