Are there restrictions as to dress when flying?

My husband is flying to New York City for a show next month. He does not wish to check a bag. He has a specific pair of boots to be worn during the show. The boots are covered in metal spikes and chains, which are not easily removed (for reference, a stock photo of this model boot can be found at the following url: http://images.vixensandangels.com/

Are there restrictions as to dress when flying?
He can't wear them or carry them on. At best he can check them in his luggage. If he tries, he will not be allowed to board the plane. Is it really worth missing his flight?

The last time I flew, I checked everything except a book %26amp; it was much easier to get through security each time.
Reply:Couldn't see the link, but I believe they would be classified as a type of weapon. I know! His intentions may be good, but that is how the world is today!
Reply:I dont believe there are any rules about what you can wear on a plane!! But it is always possible that he might get an ignorant person and they might hate on him! Ya know? But No... I think that would be descimination!!
Reply:I also can't see the link. If the boots could pass as a weapon then they will have to be checked. It's probably a fine line and without seeing them I can't say. He could ask a TSA person before going through security, then if its not allowed, he can check them.
Reply:cant see link and i dont think you can take spikes and stuff
Reply:I was unable to get the link to work, but with spikes and chains on them, he would not be permitted to wear or to carry on....checked bag only. Why not FedEx them a day or two ahead of time and have them waiting when he gets there??
Reply:He is most likely going to have to check them. TSA is very reticent about letting any kind of unusual metal items on an airplane. It does not matter whether or not they are worn or packed in a hand carried bag. My suggestion? Send them to the hotel via UPS or FedEx awaiting his arrival. This is done all the time and avoids the hassle of checking these things on an airplane.
