He was born in 1874, attended Princeton, and worked for a short time in NYC as a stock analyst, before being drawn to California. He invested in real estate, and made a killing when the movie industry suddenly took off. He even made a brief appearance in the 30s classic, Forty Second Street. In later life he became a recluse and spent his days holed up in his castle, high above Sunset Boulevarde. He used to come down to the strip in the dead of night, to mix with the rough trade. This proved to be his downfall. His body was discovered in 1948 at Griffith Park, with no shoes, and ligature marks to the neck. This murder was never solved.

Louis B. Mayer died in 1957, so it can't be him....
I've looked at the bio's of the entire cast of 42nd Street and none of them died in 1948.
I can't wait to hear the answer.
